what you can learn from the english

here is a list of what i have learned in england

never call someone who is scottish english unless if you wish to die by overdosing on fist to the mouth

it is all right to put up warning signs on the road to advertise the dangers of driving near the elderly

exit signs are much cooler

mr. darcey definitely doesn't drink enough tea

the english like to put symbols on different parts of the keyboard just to mess around with americans

the danish like to scream bacon at random times throughout the day

ultimate Frisbee is the most underrated game ever created

the recipe for making an elder casey

start by mixing in austin, cade, and a little bit of connor, add a dash of nick and  a pinch of jason and top it off with a kilt and ground haggis. and there you go you have an elder casey

atheists are more fun to prosylite (is that spelled right) to than nearly anyone else on the streets of manchester

don't ever try to find a patch of grass that isn't actually just mud painted green. . .  cuz it's not going to happen

so other than that list of fun facts i actually have an incredible story for you all

i placed my first book of mormon!!!!!!! (insert fan fare with confetti a few explosions backed up with fireworks cue the person doing a backflip on a motorcycle all to the background music of josh groban singing the final countdown)  yes i feel that incredible about it. oh wait michael how did you place a book of mormon i thought you were in the mtc. your right imaginary person that i use to emphasize my own stories i am in the mtc but me and elder casey did not place just one book of mormon i say we placed not one, not two, but three books of mormon!!!!!!! (insert fan fare with confetti a few explosions backed up with fireworks cue the person doing a backflip on a motorcylce all to the background music of josh groban singing the final countdown insert fan fare with confetti a few explosions backed up with fireworks cue the person doing a backflip on a motorcycle all to the background music of josh groban singing the final countdown this time with a chorus of gasping accompanyment)

in the england mtc they take you out to go street contacting every friday. they told us that they don't do this in provo because it wouldn't be as. . . .  effective. so we got to go out to manchester and have our first experience doing actual field work. it was amazing i was a little bit timid at first because i was like oh hey there are a bunch of strangers with cool accents all over the place and i'm supposed to talk to all of them?! but elder casey had already done this because he served a mini mission in ireland so he got me right into it. we started stopping every person we could see trying to get them to set up an appointment and to give them a pass along card if they wouldn't. it was really hard at first because i couldn't believe that no one really wanted to talk to us about their eternal salvation but we kept going. at one point we had gotten kinda discouraged because we had been going for about an hour since we placed the first book of mormon and since then no one had even let us finish the our opening sentence. they would just look at us and then hurry past as soon as they saw the book of mormon or as soon as we mentioned church or eternity or prophets. so me and elder casey decided to say a prayer for charity and guidance because to get our spirits back up and as soon as we finished i noticed a man walking toward us. i jumped up to stop him!  and he walked right by us. me and elder casey laughed saying that that would have just been too amazing if it was the first person we talked to. but then the second person we talked to was very interested and asked if we could teach him more and explain to him questions he's been  having he accepted a book of mormon and set up an appointment!!!. the lord loves to humble us and it's times like these where you can realize he also has an amazing sense of humor. our last contact was with a man who said that he had been looking for god his entire life but he didn't know where to find him. we smiled and explained to him that he could find god and that god loved him and afterwards he actually asked us for a book of mormon before we could offer it. we couldn't set up an appointment because he was homeless and we had no information to give the missionaries but we gave him a map to church and he said he would be there.

it's amazing what  kind of people the lord prepares for us.

k i'm nearly out of time again so i just want to end by saying i love you all and i would love to hear from those who can’t mail

sincerely elder jarman

hey I'm in England now

dear home people,
well i'm in england now. i did have fun for my brief sojourn in the provo mtc. but about three hours or so after i got dropped off at the provo mtc they called me down to missionary travel to tell me that my visa had come through so i would be leaving the following day. my companion in provo's name was elder ashcroft and me and him became good friends for the short time that i got to know him. my district became my family so fast that it was scary. i spent less than twenty four hours with them but by the time i left i almost didn't want to go. i loved them so much and i miss them over here but i know that i am where i am supposed to be.
quick experiance. elder ashcroft was having a hard time the day i got to provo, he was realy missing his family and was having trouble adapting to mission life because of it. he told me that he had always had trouble learning from scripture and that he could never remember scripture or the referances but that he had a strong testimony based on his personal experiances. so he asked me and our two room mates to gives him a blessing before we had quiet time. our seniour companion (the senior companion was the senior for the four of us because my roomates were technically in a threesome due to the fact that i was leaving) was the voice and he said two things that stood out to me in the blessing. at one point in the blessing he made the statement that god loved elder ashcroft and at another time he promised elder ashcroft strength as he prepared to serve in the field. then it was quiet time so we all read our scriptures prayed and then went to bed. the next day before i left elder ashcroft told us of the experiance he had the night before. as i mentioned before he never has been good with the scripture and therefore doesn't have experiance with finding answers in the scriptures. but after the blessing he said a prayer for comfort and then he opened his scriptures and the first verse he saw was d&c 100 verse one. which says in the second line fear not because your family is protected.
i don't actually have much time to write today but i can tell you more on my p-day on tuesday.

guess what god save the queen and my country tis of thee are the same song!!!!!!

dear people that i spent time with before my mission,

i am now in the england mtc. i love it here it's completely different than my experience in provo. there are only fifteen missionaries at this mtc currently. we have four couple missionaries, five sisters, and only four elders. and the couple missionaries are leaving on thursday so then it will only be my district here. just the eleven of us alone in this big mtc building. see this mtc can actually house about one hundred sixty missionaries and the president says that they usually average more up into the fifties or thirties but that my group is the smallest that they have had so far. i love my companion here. his name is elder casey he is scottish (i learned this pretty quickly and not just because he sounds like that pig from jakers with his voice dropped two octaves) he starts about half his sentences with i'm scottish and i'm stubborn and then goes on to finish what he said. for example i'm scottish and i'm stubborn so i think i'd like an apple today, or i'm scottish and i'm stubborn so i miss that kilt i used to wear. you know stuff like that. he was a butcher before he came on a mission and other than disagreeing about the difference between pants and trousers we get a long great.

we've had a great time doing the practice teachings. elder casey served a mini mission for a month in ireland before he came to the mtc so he has a lot of incredible insights and he has been helping me to learn about how to teach incredibly quickly.

the other two elders are an elder buglass from york and an elder ferral from denmark. we have a lot of fun at dinner because all of us have incredibly different accents so sometimes (mostly when one of us is trying to tell a joke) we can hardly understand each other. The mtc pressident here is fantastic. since it's such a small mtc we meet with the president nearly every day, and we get to eat meals with him absolutely every day. he apparently is great friends with grandpa and knows dad fairly well, seeing as he used to be the president of the salt lake temple. his wife is also equally amazing. she is president hinkley's oldest daughter so she has some amazing stories about how he was in her personal life (president has a really funny story about asking him if he could marry his daughter by the way that i will tell you guys when i get back).

aaaaaah my time is already nearly up for this e-mail so i'll wrap it up.

um i need people to write me because i don't have any addresses so i need you guys to write me so that i can write you.

um haven't eaten any krumpets yet but i have eaten a croissant

i love you all and i can't wait to hear from you

the church is true and i'm more sure of that now than i have ever been

love
