February 27th, 2012 {hark! thine trousers are aflame!}

dear wearers of pants,
oh how i love the mission let me count the ways, . . . . . . . .  i don't
actually feel like doing that right now and i'm currently typing in a
library so if i get gushy it could become awkward for the man in the sweater
who smells of roast cabbage sitting next to me, (side note, no i am not
describing my companion, he's sitting on the other side of me). so an
interesting thing happened this week. it was  a phenomenon that was so vast
in its magnitude of surprisingness that all who spotted the said occurrence
cried out in disbelief and fell to the earth in amazement (only literal in a
few cases) the sun came out! yes i know it is hard to believe considering my
current geography but it is quite true. and this wasn't a mere cloud break
either,(because that happens ever) it was like three whole days of sunshine!
it was so weird! i never thought seeing the sun would be a strange
occurrence but when i came outside on the first day of this biblically
proportioned miracle i couldn't even see. i felt a little bit like i had
been living underground for the last three months and just stepped outside.
you just get so used to overcast that you forget that the sky does in fact
get brighter. it was crazy!
oh and also we did missionary work and saw miracles happen there as well. we
spent a lot of this week chasing down less actives from the ward and helping
them overcome the issues that are currently keeping them from activity and
we saw some great success. in some cases it was really sad because there
were super strong saints that just weren't coming to church because they had
no way to get there or because their working situation prevents them from
coming more often. the good news though is that the ward i'm in has an
amazing ward council so we were able to work with them and fix all these
ridiculously small issues. i also had a great experience dealing with
revelation. we pray every day to find investigators and to be led to the
elect, to those that will hear the gospel and respond, not only to the point
of their own conversion, but to the point where they can fulfill the
baptismal covenant as comfort those that stand in need of comfort. one of
the days this week we devoted almost entirely to finding, which means we hit
the streets armed only with some books of mormon, and a fistful of passalong
cards. after a hard long day of working we decided to try and find a street
to knock before we went back to our flat for the night. we ended up going to
one of the streets that we had decided on earlier in the month, when we
fasted and prayed for streets to knock.
so we roll up to that street and the first house we knock, BAM!
(the following is a dramatization and abbreviation of the discussion that
followed):
hello we're missionaries
oh thats great i have some questions
thats great this book can answer them
oh yes that great please teach me more and leave me materials and come back
and teach me more please.

we left the door and just stood there for a bit and then we turned to each
other and elder day just said. "hm. well that went well" and then we went on
to knock one of the greatest streets i've knocked on my mission.
this work is real and we are quite literally helped along every step of the
way. this gospel is true and i know that more than i have ever before. my
favorite color is purple but that doesn't apply to what i'm currently
talking about. and i love being a missionary.

i love hearing from you all and i'm excited about the future

with love elder michael jarman

ps. i think that someone should buy jonathat a pillow pet, just a
suggestion, but seriously i think he would enjoy that

pps. also i'm not sure belgian is an actual language. although flemish is. .
. . think about it
