March 26th, 2012 {ten reasons why you never invite elephants to tea}

dear anybody who reads this besides the bearded man sitting next to me, so
usually i write one or two sentences at the beginning of my letter to sort
of introduce the week and what i've done. i'm not going to do that this week
i'm just going to jump into it with absolutely no prelude at all. . . .
this week we taught a man named gerard (pronounced jair (rhymes with
hair) ard (rhymes with buschard) who has an. . . interesting religious
history. he has not only been around the block concerning religious parties/
he's knocked on every door had a barbeque in a few backyards and dug up some
trees in the local park (figuratively speaking) there is not a religion that
i've heard of (besides "the church of everyone should bake annie cookies"
which was a bit of a flop from the start if we're being honest) that he has
not spent some time investigating. it was pretty cool to be able to sit him
down and give him some straight answers to some of the questions that he's
been seeking answers to his entire life. he wasn't able to set up a return
appointment (yet) because of his hectic schedule as an ambulance driver and
father of an absolutely insane three year old. but we should be able to nail
him down (figuratively speaking) soon enough. plus he asked us if he could
come to church and experience how we worship, and after some deliberating we
consented so we should see him around next week (he couldn't make general
conference :(  ) now moving on from the dragons and unicorns, i also was
able to go on my first real exchange! i mean i've been on a few before but
since i'm so close to the visitors center most of the missionaries in my
area are sisters. we don't really do exchanges with sisters. . . . so since
we've been limited in the number of elders nearby i haven't been able to go
on a full 24 hr.
exchange until this last wednesday. it was way fun and i was able to learn a
lot from the zone leader i exchanged with. one thing i've learned out here
is that no matter what you always have something more to learn from everyone
that you know and from everything we do. there is always more to learn and
there is always room for improvement.
that's one of the great things about our heavenly fathers plan for us.
we can always continue to grow and develop and learn and progress no matter
what happens! the only thing that can stop us from learning is our own pride
because as soon as we let pride in then we start to listen to satan's lies
about how "we know so much already" and "we've done enough why try harder".
my only response is thus. "Psh!"

i love this gospel more than i can tell you all. i love the book of mormon.
we must have the luck of the irish or something to be blessed with such an
amazing book. the message in it is so clear and so applicable to us. i would
exhort you all (even though moroni has already done it) to read AND PONDER
the book of mormon daily then if you pray for help to understand and help to
apply what you have learned i promise you that it will help you in every
(and by that i mean everything ever) aspect of your life ever.
the church is true.
the book is blue.
(disclaimer:it can also be bound in any number of colors. blue is just the
most frequently used)

with love
Elder Jarman

ps. i just realized my first two sentences were basically an introductory
prelude
